Summer Trend: Mix & Match Swimwear
I love mismatched bikinis. They are so easy, and they give off such a fun, laid back vibe. I've been wearing mismatched bikinis for a few summers now so I am pretty excited that it is such a big trend for Summer 2014. While there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to mixing tops and bottoms, today I'm sharing some tips for finding the perfect mismatched bikini!
1. Keep it within the same brand. Colours vary so much from brand to brand that it can be nearly impossible to match the turquoise in your print bikini top with a solid turquoise bottom from a different brand. If you don't mind your colours not completely matching, then ignore this tip, and if you're shopping for neutrals it doesn't apply.
2. Keep it within the same colour family. I think this trend is easiest to pull off if you follow this tip, no matter which colour you choose. This is also a good tip to follow when it comes to mixing print tops and bottoms.
3. Mix analogous or complementary colours. The mix and match trend also looks great when analogous or complementary colours are combined. Analogous colours are those that sit next to each other on the colour wheel (for example blue and green) while complementary colours are those that sit directly opposite to each other on the colour wheel (for example purple and yellow).
4. Prints on top, solids on the bottom. Since most women tend to be smaller on top and bigger on the bottom, I prefer to mix lighter colour or print tops with solid, darker colour bottoms. However this is just a general preference; I've seen some bikinis that don't follow this rule and still look great!
