University or College?

Image
Today's topic is neither beauty, fashion nor food related, but since it's back to school time, I've been thinking about school lately. I finished a postgraduate program in fashion management in April and I also have an arts degree in history and political science. Back when I was in high school, there weren't many people who attended both university and college. I automatically decided that I should go to university because to me, that's what people did after high school. Due to the economy and job market these days, many people are deciding to go to college after they complete their degree or heading straight to college after high school in order to focus their skill set on a particular career. Today I wanted to share a bit about my experiences in both university and college. University University develops your critical thinking skills. I'm not saying that college doesn't, but many of my college courses were very practical and hands-on, while univer

Lately on Instagram

Image
Today I thought I'd share some photos that I recently posted on Instagram !  Yum, local blueberries! I recently dropped by Athena Bakery on the Danforth. They have the best baklava!  The first two September issues I picked up. Watching an outdoor movie at Sugar Beach. Walking along the boardwalk on the Toronto waterfront. I think I'm becoming slightly addicted to stationery. I picked up these adorable Rifle Paper Co. notebooks from Chapters Indigo recently. This was well worth the wait - the line up was down the sidewalk! This is espresso ice cream with chocolate and almond pieces in a Reese's Pieces waffle cone. If you are in Toronto, definitely check out Dutch Dreams at St. Clair and Bathurst.  Swimming with some friends.

Cozy Loungewear

Image
I don't know what's going on with the weather this summer. Two years ago I spent my first summer in Toronto and we had some of hottest weather I have ever experienced. It was downright stifling . This summer has felt more like early fall, especially at night when the temperature has dropped down to the low double digits several times. Instead of enjoying a drink on a patio, this weather has made me want to stay in with a good book, a cup of tea and some cozy pyjamas. Needless to say, I've been browsing for loungewear lately and today I'm sharing my favourites with you! La Senza / Long Sleeve Romper (on sale) Joe Fresh / Piped Sleep Shirt Victoria's Secret / The Fireside Long Jane Pajama Victoria's Secret / The Sleepover Knit Pajama Victoria's Secret / Cotton Mayfair Sleepshirt Aerie / Softest Sleep Ruffle Cami Aerie / Softest Sleep Pant Aerie / Softest Sleep Robe

Drugstore Find: Physicians Formula Talc-Free Mineral Correcting Powder

Image
Physicians Formula isn't the most popular drugstore makeup brand by any means, so today I am devoting this post to their Talc-Free Mineral Correcting Powder . This little gem has been one of my go-to products for years. This product seems to be completely one of a kind as I'm not aware of anything similar, either drugstore or high end. Physicians Formula describes this products as a 3-in-1 corrector, primer and powder that "colour corrects the most common skin imperfections, smoothes skin texture and evens out skin tone." It is available in four shades, Translucent, Creamy Natural, Buff Beige and Natural Beige, and it costs $19.99. Each shade combines yellow, pink, green and beige coloured powders. Yellow cancels out purple/blue under eye circles on olive skin tones, pink highlights and cancels out purple/blue under eye circles on fair and light skin tones, and green cancels out redness. I use this powder as a primer. Every liquid primer that I've

Entertaining Idea: Taco Bar

Image
Let me start this post off by saying that it is a blogging fail. I only have one picture to share with you, and admittingly it's not even a very good one as I took it with my phone for Instagram purposes. Originally I was not going to blog about this, but have decided to do so. I love to have friends over for dinner at my apartment. If you've ever thrown a dinner party before, you know how stressful it can be cooking and serving multiple courses, especially with a small kitchen. Mexican food has been having a moment lately, so for my latest dinner party, I decided to do a taco bar. Taco bars are quite simple and are a great way to accommodate meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans. You can have as few or as many ingredients as you want. The best part is that many of these ingredients don't require cooking. Along with tortillas, I chose to serve ground beef, sauted peppers and onions, black beans, shredded romaine lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, salsa, sour cream and homema

Healthy Recipe: Coconut Water Slushie

Image
When I was little, I used to love drinking slushies from my local convenience store during the summer. While they are delicious, they are also full of sugar, so I created a simple two ingredient version using coconut water and frozen fruit. I love coconut water because it is super refreshing, hydrating and high in potassium. Make sure you purchase 100% pure coconut water as other versions contain added sugar. Today I wanted to share the recipe with you because I've been enjoying it so much lately. It's just like the slushies you used to love, only way better. Coconut Water Slushie Serves 1 1 cup 100% pure coconut water, chilled 1 cup frozen fruit of your choice Add coconut water and frozen fruit to blender and blend until desired consistency. Pour into a glass, garnish with fresh mint leaves if you're feeling fancy, and enjoy!

Natural Beauty: Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye and Cheek Palette

Image
If you read my July Favourites  post, you'll know that I recently purchased the limited edition Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye and Cheek Palette . Today I thought I would review and swatch this palette for you. Although Tarte Cosmetics is one of my favourite beauty brands, they are not well known for their eyeshadows. In fact, they don't have any eyeshadows in their regular product line, and the only time they seem to be released is in limited edition palettes. I've tried their eyeshadows in the past, and I loved the formulation. As always, these products are formulated without parabens or phthalates.  This is the third disk palette that Tarte has released, and the first one that I've purchased. What initially caught my eye is the fun packaging as well as the eyeshadows, which are perfect colours for my green eyes. It's rare that I find a palette where all the shades seem made for me. This palette is a steal at $46. It contains six
