Fashion Favourites: World Mastercard Fashion Week

Image
World Mastercard Fashion Week (aka Toronto Fashion Week - who else dislikes fashion weeks being named after corporate sponsors rather than the cities they are held in?)  took place last week. Although it lacks the international attention of other major fashion weeks, it serves as a great platform for Canadian designers to showcase their work. Unfortunately I was unable to attend any of the shows, but I did follow them through social media and the press. Today I wanted to share with you my favourite show just as I did with the New York, London, Milan and Paris shows .   Pink Tartan I adored Pink Tartan's F/W 2014 show. Founder/designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran drew inspiration from the Inuit people for her collection. It featured outerwear, dresses and separates in houndstooth, wool, and red and black buffalo check, as well as fur stoles.  My favourite looks? (Source) (Source) (Source) Watch the show  here.

Looks of the Week!

After last week's casual picks , this week was all about dressing up.  1. Emma Watson Emma made my list for the third week in a row! She looked absolutely stunning at the Spanish premiere of Noah wearing a J. Mendel jumpsuit.  (Source) 2. Kate Winslet Kate looked like a classic beauty in a simple yet elegant Safiyaa red dress at the Divergent premiere in L.A.  (Source) 3. Shailene Woodley Shailene also looked amazing on the red carpet at the Divergent premiere. She wore Elie Saab and strappy sandals.  (Source)

Natural Beauty: Easy Honey Sugar Lip Scrub

Image
Today I want to share with you a simple, natural and cost-effective DIY lip scrub. The best part is that all the ingredients are probably already in your kitchen! Simply mix 3 parts honey and 1 part sugar until well combined. Apply a small amount to your lips and lightly rub until your lips are well exfoliated. Remove the scrub with a damp cloth. Store the leftover scrub in your bathroom so it's always there when you need it, and apply once a week or as needed. That's all there is to it!

Outfit Inspiration: Creative Job Interview

Image
It can be hard to decide what to wear to a job interview, let alone one in a creative industry, such as fashion or beauty. My biggest tip is to let your personal style shine through without looking unprofessional. I've put together four outfits on Polyvore that I think would be perfect to wear to an interview for a creative job. Outfit #1   Wear a printed shift dress and black blazer. Accessorize with a black tote and pumps, and a pendant necklace. Outfit #2   You can't go wrong with a classic white button-up and black cropped skinny pant. Use your accessories to let your personal style shine through. Outfit #3 Pair a colour blocked sweater with a black midi pencil skirt. Finish the look off with a printed pump, some jewellery and a colourful bag to add a pop of colour to your black and white outfit. Outfit #4 Top off a classic black pleated midi skirt with a graphic print sweater. Add a t-strap pump, statement necklace and a red lip.

Looks of the Week!

Spring trends and casual dressing caught my eye this week. Here are my top three celebrity looks. 1. Jessica Alba Jessica attended the launch party for Current/Elliott designers Emily Current and Meritt Elliott's new style book wearing a printed blazer, white tee and high waisted skinny jeans. She added some fun cobalt blue pumps for an additional pop of colour. This will definitely be one of my go-to outfits this spring.  (Source) 2. Allison Williams The Girls star rocked the athletic trend on the red carpet at a Television Academy event. She wore a Brunello Cucinelli blouse and soft pants, and nude Louboutin pumps. This is another look that I can't wait to try this spring.  (Source) 3. Emma Watson For me at least, Emma can do no wrong recently. The actress wore a midnight blue chiffon Wes Gordon gown to the premiere of Noah  in Berlin. The back featured gorgeous bow detailing.  (Source)

How-Tos: Organizing Your Makeup

Image
Everyone who knows me knows that I'm obsessed with makeup. I have a ton of it, and for a long time, I stored it all on top of my dresser. For someone who likes organization as much as I do, it was getting out of hand. I had no room on my dresser for anything else, and if I accidentally knocked a lipstick over, it would cause everything else to fall over. I saw this image on Pinterest about a year ago and it inspired me to change the way I store my makeup. (Source) After seeing this picture, I went to Ikea and bought a multi-tiered serving platter . If you don't have a ton of products, a cake stand is a good option. I store my foundation, blushes, bronzers and powders on the top tier, my eye products on the middle tier, and my lip products on the bottom tier. I store my palettes, which are too large for the serving platter, along with products that I don't often reach for in a makeup case that I keep in my closet. It makes so much sense to store makeup vertically a

Fashion Favourites: Fall/Winter 2014 Shows

Image
Paris Fashion Week came to a close yesterday, officially marking the end of Fashion Month until September. I look forward to the fall shows each year as I favour dark colours, knits, (faux) fur and leather over spring styles. I thought that the fall shows were really strong this year, and as a fashion lover, I thought it would be fun to share with you my favourite shows from New York, London, Milan and Paris. 1. New York: Jill Stuart  (Video source) I love Jill Stuart's edgy, rock and roll vibe. Stuart's inspiration was the 1970s, and her collection featured mini dresses, wool coats and lots of leather.  2. London: Burberry (Video Source) Christopher Bailey just keeps getting better and better. His collection was absolutely gorgeous, featuring colourful hand painted fabrics, dresses and trench coats. This show was my favourite of Fashion Month. 3. Milan: Giorgio Armani (Video source) The Max Mara show featured tons of coats in traditional Eng

Natural Beauty: Coconut Oil

Image
This is the first post in a new series which explores natural beauty products. I recently went for a facial at a new-to-me spa and was told something that has resonated with me ever since: why would you put something on your body that you wouldn't eat? During my facial, I was told about all the yucky ingredients in conventional skin care products, and about the importance of feeding our skin with everything it needs. She explained that we should not use products that contain alcohol, which dries out the skin causing it to produce oil, and should look for products that contain oil, especially those of us with oily skin. Immediately following my facial I scoured my local drugstores looking for natural skin care products with oil and no alcohol. I had no luck and came home empty handed. At this time, I was never completely happy with the skin care products that I was using. After checking the ingredients of my current products, combined with my unsuccessful shopping trip for

A number of pre-Oscar events happened this week, as well as Paris Fashion Week, the last of the "Big 4" fashion weeks. Once again, I had a tough time picking the top looks.  1. Diane Kruger Diane looked stunning at the National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact Awards, blending the perfect balance of masculinity and femininity. She paired a soft sheer white dress with a belted black blazer. She kept her makeup simple with a soft bronze smoky eye, pink lips and a touch of pink blush.  (Source) 3. Jessica Alba Jessica Alba looked very ladylike in a lilac sweater and coat, a navy pencil skirt, and pink pumps at the Nina Ricci F/W 2014 show at Paris Fashion Week.
